TV Shows like Forever and Ever

It's a Brazilian Globo soap that blends domestic melodrama with a supernatural-romance premise. Created by Daniel Ortiz and Andréa Maltarolli and first broadcast in 2014, the productional logic leans on long serialized running time (161 episodes) to let character work accumulate rather than resolve quickly. At the center are Caíque, a doctor who can see and speak to spirits, and Laura, a journalist searching for her mother; that dual-protagonist pairing supplies the show's emotional engine without depending on shock tactics. Formally the show privileges tight-framing and a steady pace, staging many of its turning points in domestic interiors so the supernatural reads as inherited absence rather than spectacle. The visual texture skews warm and saturated, foregrounding close-quarter staging common to network telenovela craft while episodic beats alternate investigative-mystery sequences with romantic set-pieces. That rhythm produces a layered emotional economy: melancholic registers sit beside procedural curiosity, and motifs recur across episodes so small revelations compound into meaningful patterns. The narrative deliberately trades on family-conflict and found-history tropes, using spectral encounters to externalize private grief in a broadly accessible format. Culturally the series sits in the Latin American telenovela lineage, adapting ritualized melodrama to questions of identity-and-belonging and moral-unease; spirits act as narrative proxies for intergenerational secrets, and the romance provides a cathartic through-line. Its strength is generosity of feeling coupled with disciplined visual grammar, which makes its payoffs earned rather than gratuitous. For viewers who follow long-form soap rhythms, the show offers both immediate sentimental returns and layered thematic returns for attentive, repeat viewing.
